YOKOHAMA Japan (June 28, 2011) - Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today announced its production, sales and export figures for May, 2011.
1. Production
Nissan’s global production in May increased 19.3% year-on-year to 368,914 units, marking an all-time record for the month of May.
Production in Japan increased 0.8% year-on-year, to 80,036 units, despite the effects of the earthquake on March 11. This was mainly due to increased demand for Juke and export models, led by Rogue.
Production outside of Japan saw an increase of 25.7% year-on-year to 288,878 units, marking an all-time record for the month of May.
In the U.S., production increased 8.3% year-on-year to 49,105 units, mainly due to increased demand for Altima.
In Mexico, production increased 39.8% year-on-year to 54,678 units, due to increased demand for all models led by Sentra, Tiida and the new March.
In the U.K., production increased 11.6% year-on-year to 39,242 units, due to increased demand for Juke and Qashqai.
In Spain, production increased 67.1% year-on-year to 15,357 units, mainly due to increased demand for Primastar.
In China, production increased 29.4% year-on-year to 98,934 units, marking an all-time record for the month of May. The production increase was mainly due to increased demand for Sunny, March and Qashqai.
Production in other regions increased 28.5% year-on-year to 31,562 units, mainly due to increased demand for the new March/Micra in Thailand, India and Indonesia.
2. Sales
Global sales increased 6.3% year-on-year to 344,934 units, marking an all-time record for the month of May.
Including mini-vehicles, Nissan sold 37,981 units in Japan, down 12.9% year-on-year, due to effects of the earthquake on March 11.
In Japan, vehicle registrations in May decreased 16.1% year-on-year to 28,031 units, despite increased sales of Juke.
Domestic sales of mini-vehicles were down 2.6% from the previous year to 9,950 units, despite increased demand for Moco.
Sales outside of Japan increased 9.3% year-on-year to 306,953 units, marking an all-time record for the month of May.
Sales in the U.S. decreased 9.1% year-on-year to 76,148 units, despite increased demand for Altima.
In Europe, sales increased 37.0% year-on-year to 58,671 units, due to sales recovery in Russia and increased demand for Juke.
In China, sales saw an increase of 15.0% year-on-year to 93,270 units, marking an all-time record for the month of May. This was due mainly to increased demand for the new Sunny, launched in January, and Qashqai.
Sales in other regions increased 8.6% year-on-year to 55,823 units, mainly due to increased demand in Thailand, India and Indonesia (markets where the new March/Micra has been launched) and favorable sales in Brazil and Colombia.
3. Japan Exports
Nissan’s exports in May decreased 5.6% year-on-year to 45,321 units.
Exports to North America increased 8.4% year-on-year to 27,287 units, mainly due to increased demand for Juke.
Exports to Europe increased 18.8% year-on-year to 6,855 units, mainly due to increased demand for X-Trail.
